Walking around Coosa River Campground

The rain finally stopped and we even saw a little sunshine this morning.

This morning I walked up to the laundry and put a load in the washer. There is only 1 washing machine there and 2 dryers, but the price is right $1.00 each. I was the only one using the laundry today, so it didn't take too long to get my 3 loads done.

While I was doing laundry, Mike went up to the Trading Post to see about having a credit issued on our credit card for the $22 that we were overcharged for our stay here. He was told they would issue a credit, but it might take a few days before it showed up on our account.
By 3:00 the clouds were mostly gone and the sun was definitely out, so we went walking down by the Coosa River.

We stopped at the lock and dam where several people were fishing and looked at the old

lock that is no longer in use.

Then we walked back up toward the campground and stopped to look at the Myra H., a sternwheel paddleboat that was built in 1932. The Myra H. was used as an excursion boat on the Etowah, Oostanaula and Coosa Rivers until the 1940's.

The paddleboat is powered by a 1929 Buick engine connected to a 40-foot drive shaft that drives the chain-driven paddlewheel.

We walked up to the other loop in the campground which is occupied by mostly permanent campers.

It was nice to be able to get out and walk around today after yesterday's rain.

We will be leaving here tomorrow and heading east to South Carolina.
