Kinards to Fort Gordon Recreation Area

I didn't post anything for yesterday - we just stayed at the campground and took it easy.

We got up this morning at 8:00 and by 10:00 had broken camp and were leaving Magnolia RV Park. We waited to hitch up the car until we got up to the closed gas station on SR-66. We headed north on I-26 to exit 56 and then west through Clinton on SR-72.

We were pleased to see that SR-72 was 4-lane once we got through Clinton.

We crossed Lake Greenwood and saw these houses on the built near the lake.

At Greenwood we took US-221 Bypass around Greenwood and then south on US-221 which became a 2-lane highway once we left Greenwood.

By now it was getting close to lunch time and we started to look for a place to stop. Just
north of McCormick we took US-378 through the town.

Just before we left McCormick about 11:30, we found a place to park the RV in the parking lot of an old building that had been torn down. We had planned on having sandwiches for lunch, but wouldn't you know it - there was a Hardee's right across the street!

Mike and I walked over to Hardee's and he ordered the Patty Melt Cheeseburger meal and I had the Bacon Cheeseburger meal. Our burgers and fries were hot and tasted so good.

We were back on the road by 12:00 and heading toward Georgia. We crossed the Savannah River at 12:15.

Mike wanted to get gas before we arrived at the campground and we decided to drive into LIncolnton to look for gas station. The only one we found didn't take credit cards at the pump, so we left (we don't get our discount if we pay inside).

We took SR-47 south out of Lincolnton and then crossed part of Strom Thurmond Lake and arrived at the entrance to Pointes West Army Resort at 12:45 after driving 90 miles today.

We found a place to park the RV and disconnected the car and drove up to the Lodge to register and get our campsite assignment. Then we went back to the RV and I dropped Mike off and he followed me in the RV over to our campsite.

We are in site 3A which is a back-in with full hook-ups (50 amp elec). Mike backed the motor home in at an angle so we would have a good view of the lake.

After setting up the RV and relaxing for a while, we walked down by the lake and over to the old boat ramp. We have a good view of the marina.

We decided to have sandwiches for supper and then after supper, we sat outside for a while. We will be here for 10 days to do some sightseeing and yes, genealogy research. One reason we're staying here so long is so we're sure to have a place to stay over the Memorial Day weekend.
