Traveled to Symphony and Al's house

We left Mountain Lakes Resort this morning at 10:30 and headed east on State Road 227 to State Road 68 through Collinsville.

After driving through Collinsville, we headed north on State Road 176 (Lookout Mountain Parkway) to our friends' house. We called them just
before we reached their intersection (11:30) and Al drove out in their golf cart to guide us to their house (it is located close to the intersection of 3 highways). This is our first visit since Al and Symphony moved to this house a couple of years ago.

We backed the RV into the garage they had built for their motor home (their RV isn't there, they're having work done on it). After plugging in to their 50 amp electric service (they also have water & sewer hookups), we leveled the motor home and put the slides out.

Symphony fixed sandwiches for lunch and then I browned some boneless pork ribs while she prepared the potatoes and carrots before putting everything in the crockpot for dinner tonight.

Then Al and Symphony drove us up to the Little River Canyon National Preserve that is often called "the Grand Canyon of the East" and is one of the deepest gorges east of the Mississippi River. When Mike was in the Army Reserves (his unit was at Pell City near Birmingham), they would fly the helicopters through the Little River Canyon.

We stopped at several lookouts along the canyon to take photos

and then stopped at the overlook for Little River Falls. One of our first sights in the parking lot was the bathrooms and Mike and Al had to add one more photo to their "Outhouse Tour".

We then walked down to the Little River Falls Overlook.

When we all traveled through western Canada in 2009, Mike and Al started having their picture taken with every "outhouse" we came across and that is how the "Outhouse Tour" started (see photo album).

We then stopped at the Little River Canyon Center which was built by Jacksonville State University and features a geothermal heating and cooling system, but it had closed for the day by the time we got there.

We went back to Symphony and Al's and dinner was ready in the crockpot - all we needed to do was fix garlic bread and a salad - what a good way to end a day of travel and sightseeing!
