Lexington, VA to Front Royal, VA

We left Long's Campground this morning around 10:30 continuing north on I-81. We pulled into a rest area near Plains Mill, VA around noon for lunch. We stayed on I-81 until we reached Strasburg, VA & took State Road 55 east to Front Royal, VA. We arrived here at North Fork Resort mid afternoon. It was only about 120 miles from Lexington to Front Royal.

We're in site #C-32 & it definitely is NOT level. It's a gravel site - sloping rear to front. Our right front wheel is on 10" blocks and the left front wheel is on 8" blocks.

We had stayed here in 2006 in a different site & it wasn't any better. On that visit we saw a number of motorhomes jacked up so high to get level, that their front wheels were off the ground by as much as a foot or more! We are in a pull through site with full hookup & 30 amp electric.

Bristol, TN to Lexington, VA

We got an earlier start than usual this morning & left Wal-Mart in Bristol, TN at 8:30. We stopped for gas this morning at a Petro at Glade Springs, VA & paid $3.419 a gallon. We stopped for lunch at a rest area on I-81 near Childress, VA.

We arrived here at Long's Campground at Lexington, VA a little after 2 pm this afternoon. We are on site #28. It's a gravel site & not a very level one. Long's does have wifi, but the signal is weak. Since Long's is a Passport America campground, we're only paying 1/2 price ($15) for tonight. We have a pull through site with full hookups & 50 amp electric.

Collinsville, AL to Bristol, TN

We said goodby to Symphony & Al this morning & thanked them for their hospitality. It's always great to see them & catch up on each other's news.

Instead of driving back through Collinsville, we followed Al's directions & drove north & got onto I-59 just south of Fort Payne. We stopped for gas at a Pilot station in Rising Fawn, GA & paid $3.399 a gallon for regular. They had a Subway restaurant & we decided to have lunch there instead of fixing lunch in the RV. When we got to Chattanooga, TN we stopped at Shipp's RV Center to shop at Camping World. We took I-75 north from Chattanooga and then I-81 north.

After driving almost 300 miles today, we stopped for the night at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Bristol, Tennessee. We called ahead to confirm that it was okay for us to spend the night. We also asked if the store had a section of the parking lot they would prefer us to park in. The parking may have been free, but after paying $100+ at Wal-Mart it was a good trade out for Wal-Mart.

Dothan to Collinsville

We left The Willows this morning at 9:30 - earlier than our usual departure time of 10:30. We stopped in the parking lot of a shopping center just south of Montgomery to have lunch.

After driving 280 miles from Dothan we arrived at our friends' house near Collinsville late this afternoon. It's really good to see Symphony & Al again.

We had stopped by to visit with Symphony & Al last April before starting on our 2007 trip. They also have a bichon, Chrissy. Last year she was still a puppy & practically wore Tinker out. She was so happy to see another bichon & just wanted to play all the time. Chrissy was happy to see Tinker again today; she is a little older, but still wants to play a lot.

After spending the winter here in Dothan, Alabama, Mike & I are more than ready to get back out on the road. We spent the day getting ready to leave tomorrow for our trip up to the Maritimes.

Our phone & DSL service was terminated today. I went down to the post office to close out our post office box & have our mail forwarded to our mail service in Pensacola. Of course there was laundry to do before leaving town, so a stop at the laundromat was necessary & then to Petsmart to get Tinker's dog food.

While I was running errands, Mike was getting the RV ready for the road - disconnecting our extra propane tank, taking down our outside screens, etc.
