Green River, Utah to Silt, Colorado

It was 64° when we left Green River State Park this morning at 9:20. We stopped at a Pilot Travel Center to get gas ($3.259 a gallon) before getting on to I-70 and heading east. I remember seeing Sunoco gas stations in Florida in the '50's and I always liked seeing the green dinosaurs and we now only see them when we are out west.

As we drove east on I-70 the terrain changed from the towering mesas

to valleys and eventually to wide open plains.

We entered Colorado at 11:00 and the terrain changed again.

We stopped at a Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita, CO and just as we were to turn into the parking lot, we saw a sign saying it was closed. REALLY?! Why couldn't they have put a sign out on the interstate that it was closed? But then I wouldn't have been able to get a photo of this prairie dog (he was standing up on
his hind legs & just as the camera focused, he dropped down on all fours).

We would occasionally have glimpses of snow covered mountains in the distance and they contrasted with the rocky terrain near the interstate.

A new fence was being built alongside the interstate and every so often we would see these raised areas that would allow wildlife to get away from the road and over the fence without jumping. The pathways were only one way - away from the interstate.

We arrived here at the Glenwood Springs/Colorado River KOA at 1:40 and the wind was blowing dust through the campground.

We're paying $41.36 to stay here and that is with a discount for retired military. We are in site 18 and have full hook-ups. It's a gravel site and it was pretty level, so we didn't need to use our leveling blocks, just lower the front of the trailer to get level. The wind blew most of this afternoon, but eventually died down and we had sun and blue skies.

After setting up the trailer, we disconnected the car and loaded the laundry in it and I drove up to the office to the laundry there. They had a laundry closer to our campsite, but there were 2 washers and 2 dryers and 1 dryer was out of order.

The laundry at the office has 5 washers ($3.00 each) and 3 dryers ($1.75 each). I had 3 loads to do, so it cost $14.75 for laundry today. While the laundry was going, I loaded the photos I took today from the camera onto my laptop and named and edited them.
