The winds had calmed down overnight and when we got up at 7:00 this morning, the winds were only 16 mph. The temperature had also gone down overnight and it was 35° with a wind chill of 25°.
We had a husband and wife staying in the campsite next to us and they had just started full-timing 3 days ago. Mike said they had left this morning about 6:00 and had left their water hose. Mike checked the hose and it was stiff - they had left it hooked up overnight and the water in it had frozen.
I made a trip to the bathroom just before we left the campground and took a couple of photos. Each bathroom also had a dressing area and shower and it was heated - that really felt good this morning.
We left the campground at 8:30 and stopped at the Love's station to get gas before getting on to I-40 West. We paid $2.959 a gallon for premium.
We passed by several Wind Farms and saw some wind turbines being erected.
The terrain in western Texas changed from farm land into desert and mesas the closer we got to the New Mexico state line.
When we were about 16 miles east of the New Mexico state line, we saw a travel trailer laying on its side on the shoulder of I-40 West. We were both so surprised to see it, that we didn't get a photo of it. That just
reinforced our decision yesterday to stay in Amarillo and not get out on the interstate with the high winds.
We crossed into New Mexico at 10:00 and immediately gained an hour when we entered the Mountain Time Zone. We stopped at the Flying J at Tucumcari, NM at 9:50 to get gas ($2.939 a gallon) and afterwards parked in a RV parking space and went in to Denny's to have a late breakfast. Mike ordered the Santa Fe Skillet and I ordered the Moon over My Hammy.
About an hour later we saw this mesa with white sand instead of the usual red dirt.
Then a little farther on we realized that it wasn't white sand, but snow.
We stopped at a Rest Area at 12:30 to go to the bathroom and feed Tinker his lunch and it was lightly snowing. Then about 20 minutes after leaving the Rest Area, we ran into some more light snow.
We drove through Albuquerque and stopped at 2;45 at Camping World which is next to the campground where we're spending the night. We bought a new shower head and hose to replace the plastic shower head and hose in our trailer's shower.
Then we drove over to the Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post to check in for tonight. While Mike was checking in, I took some photos of the vintage trailers and cars.
We are site B6 with full hookups. It is supposed to be 27° in the morning, so we both took a shower after we had set up camp. Then Mike dumped our black and gray water tanks and we are using the water in our fresh water tank instead of using the water hookup so we done't have a frozen water hose in the morning.
We drove 286 miles today and I took a LOT of road pictures - some of which I've added to our photo album. Right now it is 43° and feels like 28°.
