Spending the Night at Meteor Crater RV Park

We woke up at 6:50 this morning and it was 26° and the wind chill was 17°. Mike walked Tinker while I made coffee. We decided that we would take our time leaving the RV park this morning and wait until it was a little warmer to break camp. We left Enchanted Trails RV Park at 9:40 this morning and headed west on I-40.

We drove by miles of old lava fields near Grants, NM. We remembered seeing the lava fields when we were driving east on I-40 years ago.

We stopped at the Flying J at Jamestown, NM at 11:45 to get gas and paid $2.879 a gallon for premium. We decided to have lunch at the Denny's at the Flying J and parked the car and trailer over by some other RVs parked there. Mike ordered the Grand Slamwich and I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a cup of Chicken Noodle Soup. The soup was really good and much better than I was expecting and Mike ended up getting half of his sandwich to go. We left the Flying J at 12:47 and the temp had warmed up to 41° with a wind chill of 34°.

We saw these decorated pots at an exit at Gallup, NM and remembered seeing them from a previous trip through Gallup.

We stopped at the Arizona Welcome Center to get a state map and the Welcome Center was closed.

We stopped at 2:30 at Winslow, AZ to get gas at the Flying J ($2.799 a gallon) before going to the
campground. We arrived at Meteor Crater RV Park at 3:00 and checked in. We got a 10% discount because we are Good Sam Club members, so we paid $37.80 plus $2.61 tax for our campsite tonight.

We are in site #11 with electric, water and sewer hookups. We didn't need to use the leveling blocks, just had to lower the front of the trailer in order to get level.

We stayed here in the motorhome in October 2007 and visited Meteor Crater then. Tomorrow we're going to Prescott, AZ to spend a couple of days with our friends Mike and Gayle.
