A Long Day of Rockin' & More Rockin'

I'm not sure whether any of us got a good night's sleep last night - that includes Tinker. We had some storms come through Amarillo last night with strong winds. We did have some hard rain, but it was mostly windy. You could hear the thunder somewhere nearby and it seemed to be one continuous roll of thunder.

We got up at 7:30 this morning to clear skies with 43° and a wind chill of 32° and wind. I had had problems last night uploading our photos to our Google Album and adding them to my blog post and I didn't even try to post on Facebook. So this morning I caught all of that up before we got ready to leave for Albuquerque this morning.

The wind kept getting stronger and stronger, so Mike called the FAA Weather Station at the Amarillo airport to check on the wind conditions. They told him they were forecasting winds up to 50 mph with 70 mph gusts. We talked it over and decided that we would just stay here for another day. Mike went over to the campground office and paid for tonight. He also called the campground in Albuquerque that we were going to stay at tonight and told them to change our reservation to tomorrow night. They also were having high winds today.

At 9:00 this morning our temp was 43° with a wind chill of 30° with the winds getting stronger. At 10:45 we put the slide in because we were concerned the slide topper would rip with the strong winds. We're now getting 42 mph winds and the temp had come up to 47° and the wind chill was 36°. We can feel the strong
winds and whenever we get a gust of wind the trailer rocks.

The campground makes pizzas, so at 3:30 Mike called the office and ordered a pizza. Then we "walked" over to the office to eat. At this time the temp had come up to 60° with a wind chill of 54°, but the wind was 52 mph. which made walking interesting. The pizza was pretty good and we talked with another camper who had walked over to the office just to get out of his RV for a change. While we were eating a RV drove in and we talked with the owner and he had driven from Oklahoma and said he could only go 40 mph on the interstate because of the strong winds. We were so glad that we decided to stay here today.

Before we went back to the RV, Mike took a photo of the sunken motorhome near the office.

When we had walked over to the office, we had been walking into the wind. But when we went back to the RV, the wind had changed direction and now a cross wind which really made walking interesting.

We've spent today watching TV until the cable reception got back and then we watched some Babylon 5 dvd's we had brought with us. We've also spent the day with the trailer rocking with the wind gusts. Mike would periodically check the stabilizing jacks to be sure they were down all the way. He also walked Tinker whenever he needed to go out, the wind was so strong that Mike even had a hard time sometimes keeping hold of it.

The wind has finally died down to 24 mph and the temp has also come down to 39° and a wind chill of 28°. We've put the slide back out and the trailer is no longer rocking. The winds are supposed to be out of here by 1 a.m.
