Fog and Misting Rain Driving to Amarillo

We got up this morning at 7:00 and it was foggy and misty. Not too long after we went to bed last night we had some heavy rain and then we heard a freight train. We're both laying there trying to decide if it was actually a train or a tornado, since we were supposed to have severe weather coming through. Then we heard the clackity clack of the train wheels and could relax and get to sleep. Later on I heard another freight train going by on the tracks across the street from the RV park.

It was still misting and foggy and 57° with a wind chill of 55° when we left Sunset RV Park at 8:20 and headed north on US-287.

We stopped at 11:45 to get gas at a Pilot in Childress and paid $2.649 a gallon for premium grade. We found a place to park the trailer and went in to have lunch at the Arby's at the Pilot. Mike had the Reuben sandwich and I had the turkey and bacon sandwich and we both had curly fries - both sandwiches were really good. It was 51° with a wind chill of 47° and misting and foggy.

About 20 miles after we left Childress, we ran into some really dense fog.

Then a little after 1:00 the map on the navigation screen changed to night and we realized how dark it was getting.
That was when I checked the Storm Radar app on my phone and this was what it showed.

We then ran into some really heavy rain, but it only lasted about 15-20 minutes and we were out of it.

Just before we exited I-40 to go to Oasis RV Resort, we passed by Cadillac Ranch and I managed to get a photo.

We arrived here at Oasis RV Resort in Amarillo at 2:35. It was 53° with a wind chill of 49° and it was misting rain. Mike went in to the office to check in and get our campsite assignment. The regular nightly rate is $52, but they have a 15% discount for retired military, so our cost is $44 plus tax of $3.60.

We are in site #89 with electric, water and sewer hookups and cable TV.

After setting up the trailer, we put our heavier coats on and put Tinker's sweater on him. Then we took Tinker for a walk and took some photos of the campground. By the time we got back to the trailer, we all were damp and we hung our coats up in the shower for them to dry.

The wind has picked up since late this afternoon and the trailer rocks a little bit occasionally. Right now it is 52° and feels like 46° and 23 mph winds.

We drove 290 miles today mostly in fog.

I ran into problems last night when I tried to post our photos and blog and finally had to quit and finish it up this morning.
