Arley to Dothan

After breakfast this morning, we began to break camp. We took our time this morning preparing to leave since check-out time for RVs at Hidden Cove is 11:00 and we only had 166 miles to drive today to Montgomery.

We left Hidden Cove at 10:40

We continued south to Jasper and then south on US-78 where we passed

We stopped at the Flying J north of Birmingham at exit 264 on I-65 at 12:10 to buy propane. A motor home was getting gas ahead of us, so we had to wait a bit until we could get to the propane area. While we were waiting Mike got a call from W.T. (the owner of The Willows) and he said that he and Glenda had gotten back from their trip early. W.T. said if we wanted to, we could get in to The Willows today. So we quickly changed our plans and instead of stopping in Montgomery for tonight, we will drive on down to Dothan.

By now we were able to drive up to the propane fill area and I got out and called on the phone next to the propane tank to request someone come out and fill our propane tank. I was told that they were out of propane!

Since it was lunch time we parked the RV in one of the RV parking lanes and went into Denney's to have lunch. Mike ordered the Lumberjack Slam (2 eggs, hash browns, toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage and ham) and I ordered the Ultimate Omelet (3 egg omelet with toast and hash browns). Ashley was our server and we were impressed how she was able to remember her customers' orders without writing them down and how fast she moved serving her customers.

Just as we were walking out of Flying J, I heard a customer say he was paying for propane and the cashier asked someone how to ring up propane sales. So, were they out of propane and had a delivery while we were eating lunch, or were we given the wrong information when I called about getting our tanks filled? Since it was now 1:15 we decided to forget about getting propane and head south on I-65.

We took I-65 south to Montgomery and took I-80 east to exit 9 and took Taylor Road to US-231 and then south on US-231 to Midland City.

We stopped at the Kangaroo gas station at Midland City to get gas in the motor home and paid $3.469 a gallon. I called W.T. when we left the gas station to let him know that we were only about 10 minutes away from The Willows.

We arrived at The Willows at 5:15 and W.T. was waiting for us. We unhitched the car and W.T. directed Mike into our campsite. Mike just hooked up to the electric box and will connect the water and sewer tomorrow. By the time we leveled the motor home, put the slides out and Mike set up our portable Dish antenna, it was 6:00.

A friend of ours, Jim, stopped by for a few minutes a little before 7:00 and brought Tinker a toy. Tinker has always had stuffed toys and has never seemed interested in the rubber dog toys, but he loved the rubber ducky (a child's bath toy) that Jim gave him.

After driving 261 miles today and getting in later than our usual time, we will probably be going to bed earlier than usual tonight.
