Antique Archaeology & Tennessee State Museum

We drove the 24 miles into Nashville this morning

From Nashville

and passed by the Old Customs House.

From Nashville

We arrived at the Marathon Motor Car building at noon and there was a line of people waiting to go into the Antique Archaeology store.

There was a doorman out front letting people in to the store a few at a time and after about a 10 minute wait it was our turn to go in. The doorman took our photo in front of the store before we went in.

We saw a lot of items that we recognized from the TV show

and some that we didn't.

We enjoyed walking around looking at Mike and Frank's picks and we even saw some with "sold" signs on them. Of course, they also had Antique Archaeology souvenir items for sale (yes, we bought a couple of souvenirs) and they even had live entertainment.

We left Antique Archaeology and drove downtown in Nashville to find a place for lunch. We found a Panera Bread on Commerce Street and parked in a lot across the street. We found out how expensive parking is in Nashville - $10 for 1 hour (the price went down the longer you stayed).

From Nashville

We both ordered half of a roast turkey and avocado BLT and a cup of soup for lunch. Mike had the Cream of Broccoli soup and I had French Onion. Our lunch came to $22.13 and then there was the $10 parking fee - a very expensive lunch.

After lunch we drove over to the Tennessee State Museum and passed by the Tennessee State Capitol.

From Nashville

We found a parking place on the street next to the State Museum (free parking) and walked through a walkway under scaffolding (they're renovating the museum) to one of the entrances.

From Nashville

We got a map of the museum (the museum is free) and started our tour on the Upper Level. We saw Mississippian Indian displays,

life in the Tennessee frontier,

and even David Crockett's last check (paid to his estate) from the Republic of Texas.

From Tennessee State Museum

We saw furniture, firearms, and silver goods made in Tennessee.

We even saw a 3,500 year old Egyptian mummy that was brought to Tennessee in 1859.

There was great display of handmade quilts in the Cracker Barrel Quilt Gallery.

We saw the flag from the C.S.S. Alabama in the Civil War Display.

We were greatly impressed with the Tennessee State Museum and its exhibits. We stopped by the Gift Shop and bought a couple of souvenirs and postcards. We wrote out our postcards there at the museum and walked a few blocks over to The Arcade to mail the postcards.

There are a lot of really great buildings in downtown Nashville, some built in the late 1890's

and some more modern.

From Nashville

We started to head back to the campground at 4:00 and drove by the reconstructed Fort Nashborough

and saw large groups of people dressed in costume for the Nashville Zombie Walk.

From Nashville

We stopped at a Thornton's gas station and filled the tank in the car and paid $3.469 a gallon.

We had a great day in Nashville and didn't get to see all of the sights there. On our way home we talked about what we were going to fix for dinner and decided to stop at the Cinco de Mayo restaurant near the campground.

We ordered the Cheese Dip for an appetizer. Mike ordered the Burrito Supreme and I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla for dinner and we both had Negra Modelo along with dinner.

We got back to the RV at 5:30. Tomorrow we leave here and head south to Alabama.
