Dinner at the Edelweiss German Restaurant

This evening we went to dinner at the Edelweiss German Restaurant that is about 4 miles from the campground. We had passed by the Edelweiss Restaurant on our way to Stoney Creek Resort and decided that we would go there for dinner while we were at Stoney Creek Resort.

We arrived at the restaurant at 5:45 and stopped to take a few photos before going in.

We were seated next to the fireplace with a display of German nutcrackers on the mantle.

Mike asked our waitress to take a photo of us by the fireplace.

After looking over the menu and hearing the specials for tonight, Mike
ordered the stuffed cabbage and a large bowl of German potato salad. I ordered the beef rouladen and a small bowl of German potato salad.

Our dinners also included side orders of red cabbage, Bavarian (white) cabbage, green beans, Spätzle (German noodles) and bread rolls served family style and we got seconds on the Spätzle, cabbage and rolls.

We just had sweet tea instead of beer so we would have room for a piece of Black Forest cake each. We both enjoyed our food and were totally stuffed by the time we finished dessert. The total for our dinner was $56 not including our tip.

By the time we left four more couples had come in to the restaurant for dinner. On our way to the car we stopped to pet a cat that had been laying near the front door when we entered the restaurant.

Before going back to the campground, we drove to Stuarts Draft to the Rite Aid to buy benadryl for Tinker (he's been scratching the last couple of days) and some vitamins. Then we went to the Food Lion and I bought a couple of items and used my debit card to get some cash.

We decided to take a different route back to the campground and passed by the Hershey Chocolate factory in Stuarts Draft.

We drove back on Cold Springs Road that winds through rolling hills and farms. We saw these two donkeys grazing in a pasture.

When we got back to the campground, we stopped to take a photo of Stoney Creek Lake here at the campground.

We've spent the last few days here at the campground. Mike's been looking up campgrounds to visit when we get to Tennessee and Kentucky. I've been working on genealogy and found copies of Mike's 3rd and 4th great grandfathers' (Woodruff and Phillips) wills on the LDS website. Next month we will be staying at a campground at Wilkesboro, NC that is near where his Woodruff and Phillips great grandparents lived in the 1700's and 1800's, so we'll be doing some local research there.

Tomorrow we leave here and head south to a Corps of Engineer (Goose Point) campground at Philpott Lake for a few days. We will be stopping in Roanoke to do some shopping tomorrow before going the campground. Our refrigerator is practically empty and we need to restock tomorrow since we won't be near a grocery store at Goose Point campground.
