We took I-66 east to exit 73 and crossed the Potomac River to M Street NW and meandered through shops and homes in Georgetown.

We arrived at Fletcher and Mark's apartment just before 11:30. Fletcher had parked Mark's car a block away at Meridian Hill Park, so we could park our car at his apartment. After letting Tinker, Vala (Fletcher's dog), Penny and Emily (Mark's dogs) have some time in the back yard, we went into their apartment.

We visited for a while and discussed where we wanted to eat lunch and what sightseeing we wanted to do today.

We left the dogs in the apartment and walked 5 blocks over to U Street NW to eat lunch at Alero Lounge. Mark had the Brunch Buffet, Mike had the Mexican Burrito and Fletcher and I had the Chicken Quesado - all of it very good.
After lunch we walked east to the U Street Metro station (Ben's Chili Bowl - a favorite place of President Obama - is across the street) to go on
the subway to the National Air and Space Museum. After a 10 minute ride on the Green Line train we arrived at the L'Enfant Plaza station and then walked 1 block to the National Air and Space Museum.

There was a long line to get in the museum, but it moved along fairly quickly and then we had to pass through security before finally entering the museum which is free.

We looked through the Milestones of Flight, Golden Age of Flight, and Space Race exhibits on the first floor.

We spent about an hour in the Air and Space Museum and Mike took a lot of photos that are in our Air and Space Museum album.
After leaving the museum we walked north to the National Mall where parts of it are under construction to replace some of the lawn. We stopped to take our photos with the Capitol building in the background.

Then we walked 3 blocks west up Constitution Avenue past the National Archives
to the National Museum of Natural History which is also free.

The line through security was shorter than at the Air and Space Museum. We entered the Sant Ocean Hall and one of our first sights was this 45-foot-long North Atlantic Right Whale.

We then visited the Human Origins exhibit

and then went to the Mammals Hall.

By now we were getting tired and made one last stop to see the African bull elephant in the Rotunda before leaving the museum.

On our way to the Archives-Navy Memorial Metro Station, we walked through part of the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.

We got to the Metro station a little before 5:00 and only had to wait a few minutes before the train arrived. But that particular train was going out of service and we had to get off at the next Metro station and catch a different train which only took about 5 minutes. Because it was 5:00 the train had more people riding it, so Fletcher and Mark had to stand for the 10 minute trip.
When we got off the subway, we still had to walk the 5-6 blocks back to Fletcher and Mark's apartment and it was uphill the last couple of blocks. We got back to their apartment about 5:30 and Fletcher made coffee while Mark and I let the dogs out in the back yard. We stayed for about an hour and then left to drive back through Georgetown on our way back to Front Royal.
We really enjoyed our visit today with Fletcher and Mark and the little bit of sightseeing we did. We definitely want to go back to Washington, D.C. for a longer visit.
