Fort A P Hill to Shenandoah Crossing Resort

We got up at our usual time this morning, and after coffee and breakfast we started breaking camp. Since we only have 70 miles to drive today, we weren't in any big rush to leave this mornining. We left Champs Camp at 10:45 and headed south on US-301 to Bowling Green and then south on SR-207 to Ladysmith Road west to I-95 North.

We exited I-95 at Exit 118 and drove west on SR-606/208 and crossed over Lake Anna south of Lake Anna State Park.

We drove through the town of Mineral that got it's name from the mining industry there. At one time there were 15 gold mines within a few miles of town.

We passed by this old Baptist Church that is now the Mineral Historical Foundation.

In downtown Mineral we saw these 2 girls and their horses taking a break in the shade from the mid-day heat.

We then drove through the small town of Louisa

and took US-33 west to Forest Hill Road and drove south to Shenandoah Crossing Resort.

We stopped at the gate and was greeted by Christine who had our information packet waiting for us. We are using our Coast to Coast membership to stay here. Christine showed
us the route to our campsite on the resort's map and explained about all of the resort's facilities that are available to us.

The first campsites we saw had large concrete pads, gas grills/outdoor kitchen, and patio furniture, but no shade trees. Very impressive! We continued on farther back into the campground and found the wooded area where our campsite is located.

We are in site #37 with full hook-ups (50 amp elec). There are so many trees here that we aren't able to get satellite TV, but there is cable TV. There was a cable connection at the next site over from ours and Mike tried all of the connections there, but no cable. Christine at the front gate had said that if we had any problems to call the office and Mike called to say the cable wasn't working. One of the maintenance men, Ray, came out and said someone had cut the cable for our row and it hadn't been repaired yet. We were able to plug into a cable connection across the road from our site and get cable TV. Ray even brought back a cable and connector for us to use, so we wouldn't have to run our cable across the campground road.

We will be here for a week and plan to visit some of the Presidents' homes that are in this area.
