Flame of Hope Memorial

There were still a couple of places we needed to visit and take photos of while we're here at NAS Oceana. This morning we drove off base to visit the Flame of Hope Memorial on Oceana Blvd.

From NAS Oceana

The Flame of Hope Memorial is dedicated to the memory of Prisoners of War, Missing in Action and those killed in the service of their country.

The Flame of Hope was dedicated in 1972. The flame was extinguished in 1973 and replaced with a bronze "flame", but in 1984 the flame was reignited.

Near the entrance to the Flame of Hope Memorial Park is a historic marker
for the Eastern Shore Chapel that was built near there in 1754.

After leaving the Flame of Hope Memorial, we drove further north to take a photo of this F-15 Strike Eagle that is parked alongside Oceana Blvd.

We made a quick stop at the Commissary to get a couple of things that I forgot yesterday

before we went back to the RV.

After lunch we gave Tinker a bath outside - we put him on the picnic table to wash him. He is white again - he was looking a little grey instead of white.

It was another hot day - our high was 99° with a heat index of 107°. Our outdoor thermometer was registering 107-108° in the shade under the awning, so it was registering the heat index. It's supposed to be just as hot if not hotter tomorrow, but a cold front is coming through tomorrow night and should cool things down a little.
