Visit to Southport, NC

We had rain off and on this morning and some of it was pretty heavy. So we all took our umbrellas with us to visit Southport which is about 20 miles south of Wilmington. When we got down to Southport, Jean had to drive around for a bit to find an available parking place. The rain had quit by now, but we all still carried our umbrellas in case the rain started up again.

We walked along Moore Street looking at the various shops there.

We walked over to The Pharmacy Restaurant where Jean and Joe wanted to have lunch, but it is closed on Mondays. We walked around some more and settled on the Moore Street

Market where we could sit on the porch and eat lunch. While Mike and Joe sat at the table to hold it for us, Jean and I went in to order our sandwiches. I ordered Noah's Reuben for Mike and I, and Jean ordered Noah's Reuben for Joe and a chicken salad sandwich for herself.

We saw North Carolina Maritime Museum across the street from the Moore Street Market and would like to have visited it, but it is closed on Mondays.

After lunch we walked over to Bay Street which runs alongside the Cape Fear River.

We enjoyed looking at the beautiful large homes lining Bay Street.

After walking around for a while, we decided to head back to Wilmington to go to the USS North Carolina. It was 3:00 by the time we got back to Wilmington and decided to just go back to Jean and Joe's house.

Since Jean and Joe both have appointments tomorrow, Mike and I will go tour the USS North Carolina on our own.

We relaxed the rest of the afternoon and then Jean and Joe took us to their favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. We went to Las Olas Mexi-Q Grill which is a Mexican BBQ restaurant. Mike usually orders a burrito, but none were on the menu. We all ordered the nachos which were good and the salsa was spicy and very good.
