to US-64 and then north on I-95. We stopped at 11:15 for an early lunch at a rest area near Dortches, NC. We crossed into Virginia at 12:15 and stopped at the Virginia Welcome Station for maps and brochures.

We exited I-95 at Emporia, VA and drove east on US-58. Just west of Suffolk, VA we saw
this sign for Pitchkettle Road.

We wondered what the story was behind the name and so tonight I "Googled" Pitchkettle Road and learned that according to some local historians the American Indians traveled along the path and "pitched kettles" for their camps there. Another theory is that the Indians used to get pitch or resin from the pine trees there to seal the wood in their canoes.
When we were about 8 miles west of Portsmouth, we left US-58 and drove east on I-64 to Indian River Road to Princess Anne Road and finally down Sandbridge Road to Indian Cove Resort.

We arrived here a little before 3:00 and stopped at the entrance gate. No one was in the kiosk at the gate, so Mike called the campground office and someone there opened the gate for us. We stopped at the office to register and find out what campsite we are on. We unhitched the car and I took the campground map we were given and drove the car to our campsite with Mike following in the RV.
We are in site #193 with full hookups (50 amp elec). It is a back-in campsite with a concrete pad. We are pleased to see that we are facing the east and won't have the afternoon sun shining in through the windshield.
