Central City & Everly Brothers Monument

It was 45° this morning when we got up at 8:00. This morning after breakfast I gathered up our laundry and went to the laundromat in Central City. The washing machines cost $1.50 a load which isn't too bad, but the dryers were expensive - 3 minutes for a quarter.

After the laundry was done, I stopped at the IGA Foodliner to look for some things Wal-Mart didn't have yesterday and I bought a Sunday newspaper while I was there.

I got back to the campground about 11:30 and then Mike and drove into Central City. We had bought some postcards yesterday at the National Corvette Museum and we went to the Post Office to mail them.

We drove around Central City taking photos of some of the homes there,

There is a monument to the Everly Brothers
in Central City and we found it in front of the Muhlenberg County Music Museum (the museum was closed).

Don Everly of the Everly Brothers was born in Brownie, KY which later on became part of Central City. US-62 in Central City is named Everly Brother Boulevard.

By now it was after 1:00 and we were ready for lunch. We had passed by a Mexican restaurant, El Bracera, yesterday on our way to Wal-Mart and we had decided to try it out today. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away.

Mike ordered the Burrito Supremo and I created my own combo with a beef taco, chicken quesadilla and rice and beans. The food was good and we were too full to have Fried Ice Cream for dessert.

After lunch we stopped at a car wash near the restaurant and washed the road dirt off of the car before going back to the campground.

While I was labeling the photos we took today in Central City, I realized that we hadn't taken any photos of our campsite here and Mike went outside and took a few photos.

There aren't a lot of RVs here at the campground and the few that are apparently belong to people working in the area.

We leave here tomorrow and head to southern Illinois.
