This morning Mike drove up to the Raceway here to top off the gas tank in the Pilot. They were out of premium which was priced at $4.445 a gallon (WOW), so Mike got regular grade at $2.699 a gallon. Mike also filled a couple of gas cans to take with us just in case we have a problem finding gas on the road.
I spent today doing laundry so that is all caught up just in case when we get home we don't have any electricity. I also made a broccoli and pasta salad to take with us.
I went to WalMart Supercenter this morning and bought a new Keurig coffee maker for the trailer. We had a small Keurig Mini K15 that only held enough water for 1 cup of coffee and this new one has a 36 oz. reservoir for water.
We've loaded everything we'll need for the trip in the trailer except for stuff we'll need for tonight and in the morning. We've hitched up the trailer to the car, so it's ready to go in the
morning.
We told our next door neighbor that he can park his car in our garage while we're gone. He has his boat in the garage which leaves no room for his suv.
We're debating on which route to take when we leave - go over to the center of the state and go up the FL Turnpike and then north on I-75 to I-10 or go up I-95 to Jacksonville and then west on I-10.
Residents and visitors of the Keys have been evacuating for the last couple of days and the Turnpike and I-75 could be jammed with traffic. The Governor has suspended the tolls on the Turnpike and that is the major evacuation route for the central part of the state.
This will be the first time Mike and I have evacuated for a hurricane. But with it being a Category 5 at the moment and with all of the oak trees we have near the house and travel trailer, we think it's a good idea. Especially since we don't have any shutters on our windows.
Fletcher is staying in Ft. Lauderdale since Doug's house was built to withstand hurricane force winds. Doug had windows and doors put in that meet the current standards for hurricanes and he also has shutters for the windows. A couple of Fletcher's friends are going to be staying with him during the storm.
So now we're just watching the news and hurricane updates.
