Tour of LWHS & Dinner at Crowne Plaza

This morning we drove over to Lake Worth High School and met Mike's classmates to go on a tour of our old alma mater. Some alumni drove cars to the high school and some who were staying at the Crowne Plaza arrived in a bus that the reunion committee had made arrangements for. The tour was to start at 10 a.m., but the bus didn't arrive until almost 10:30.

Dave Cantley (LWHS Principal 1980-1999) gave a brief history of LWHS since we had graduated and then led us on a tour of the North building. The old auditorium had been made into classrooms. We all enjoyed "walking the halls" and remembering what classes we took in some of the classrooms. Some of us even sat in some of the desks and found out how comfortable they were. Even the backs of the desks were made so that they had great back support.

Unfortunately we weren't able to tour the inside of the South building because of the arrangements made for the bus and it was time to take the alumni downtown to eat lunch.

Most of us met at Dave's Last Resort on Lake Avenue for lunch. Bob & Beverly J. and Paul & Diane H. sat with us for lunch. I had the French Dip Sandwich and Mike had their Boca Wrap and we both had their seasoned potatoes. Everyone's food was great.

After lunch we came back to the RV and relaxed until it was time for tonight's dinner at the Tropics Cafe at the Palm Beach Zoo. This afternoon we had the usual Florida rain and by the time we left about 7:00 it had quit. The rain may have quit at John Prince Park, but it was POURING when we got to the Zoo. We grabbed our umbrellas and headed up to the entrance where we found Carol S. and John E. standing under a "hut".

After talking with them a bit, Mike & I walked (sloshed) back to the Tropics Cafe. There were Zoo animal handlers with a couple of New Guinea Singing Dogs, a black and white Argentine Tegu lizard and other animals.

The Tropics Cafe was decorated in a tropic theme, of course. We had another buffet dinner with Caesar Salad, bean salad, tomato & onion salad, vegetable lasagna, pork roast, rolls and more. Everyone who had the vegetable lasagna raved about it. We also had pies and petit fours (the chocolate was my choice) for dessert.

Bob J. led the prayer, then we sang the LWHS Fight Song (there were copies of it on the tables),

and Bob S. was the MC with assistance from Mary A. Here's a photo (sorry it's blurry)

Afterwards there was dancing with a great band playing 50's & 60's music. We had a great time and left a little before 11:00.
