Yesterday morning we checked out the La Quinta in Tallahassee a little before 9:30 - our room cost $46.75 which isn't bad, but it sure is more expensive than our camping fees were.
We decided to not have the free breakfast at the motel and have breakfast at the Cracker Barrel near there. Mike had the biscuit and gravy with sausage and I had scrambled eggs with bacon.
It was about 10:30 when we left Cracker Barrel and we stopped to get gas ($2.039 a gal) before heading west on I-10.
We arrived at our friends' house at 2:00. It has been too long since we've seen Lance and Ann. They are living in a rental house since their beautiful home burned down earlier this year. They managed to get out of the house with just the clothes they had on. The house was a total loss and both of their vehicles were in the garage and they were destroyed.
Lance and Ann are waiting to have their new home rebuilt on the same lot and we drove over there yesterday afternoon to see the progress. The foundation is done and the outer walls are being put up now.
Lance and Ann took us out to dinner last night to one of their favorite restaurants Cheddars. We have seen the restaurants when we were traveling, but it was never time to eat when we passed by one. We really enjoyed our meal there. Lance had the Chicken Fried Steak, Ann had the Vegetable Plate, Mike had the Chicken Tender Platter and I had the Grilled Chicken Alfredo. Mike and I both agreed we'll have to Cheddars again.
After dinner we spend the rest of the evening sitting on the front porch and visiting with Ann and Lance.
We left Lance and Ann's this morning at 9:30 and headed west on I-10. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel about 50 miles down the road for breakfast. Ann had offered to cook breakfast for us, but we knew she wanted to get over to the new house to check on it. Mike had the Double Meat Breakfast and I had Scrambled eggs and bacon. We left Cracker Barrel about 11:00.
In Mobile we took US-98 west through Alabama and up to Hattiesburg, MS where we go onto US-49 north up to Jackson, MS. We stopped at a BP station to get gas ($1.829 a gal) before getting onto I-20 West.
We're spending tonight in Bossier City, LA at a La Quinta. There is a Mexican restaurant Posados near the motel and we decided to stop there for dinner before going to La Quinta. Mike and I both had the Fajita Quesadillas (he had steak and I had chicken) and a couple of Negro Modelos each. After dinner we checked in to the La Quinta here in Bossier City.
We drove 453 miles today. Tomorrow night we will be in Granbury, TX at our sister-in-law's house.
