Lake Louise Sightseeing Lift & Lake Louise

We set the alarm last night for 7 a.m. to get an early start this morning. We had frost on the car and the temp was 33°.

We headed up to the Lake Louise Sightseeing Lift and arrived there at 8:00. We entered the Lake Louise Mountain Resort and purchased tickets for the “Dine & Ride” which included a breakfast buffet and ride on the lift. I had found a coupon in an information booklet that was good for a $4 discount per person, so our ticket cost $53.78 CAD.

The breakfast buffet started at 8:30 and we had a good breakfast of bacon, sausage, hash browns, southwestern scrambled eggs and pastries. There was a Korean tour group and a few couples in the dining room.

A little before 9:30 we walked down below the lodge to view a 5 minute film before boarding a gondola and taking the 14 minute ride up Mt. Whitehorn (6850 ft.).

We stopped at the viewing area for a great view of the mountains before walking to the Wildlife Centre.

At the Wildlife Interpretive Centre we saw displays of wildlife and had our photo taken with with a grizzly bear.

Outside of the Interpretive Centre we talked with Brendan from South Africa, who had moved here 7 months ago. He told us that the Swiss guides brought their skis with them when they came here to work as mountain climbing guides and that is how snow skiing came to North America.

Mike wanted to go back down on one of the open ski chairs,

Tomorrow we leave here and head north to the Columbia Icefield where we’re going to stop for the night.

but good sport that he is, we went back down on one of the enclosed gondolas since I REALLY don’t like heights.

After doing a little shopping in the gift shop, we went out to the parking lot and saw Gloria & Marlene driving in with their Isata motorhome to go on the gondola ride. They were in front of us when we were checking in at the campground yesterday & we stopped to talk with them.

We stopped at the Javalanche Café in town to use their free wi-fi. We parked the car next to a BMW motorcycle & talked with the rider, Jean, who was from Granby, Quebec. He was on his way to Jasper and had traveled down to the Florida panhandle earlier this year.

The wi-fi at the Café was only free for the first 15 minutes, but I was able to upload a few photos to our web album. Our next stop was at the Post Office in the Samson Mall to mail our postcards and have them “hand-stamped” with the postmark for Lake Louise.

Before driving up to view Lake Louise and the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, we went back to the RV for a short break & to feed Tinker his lunch and saw this squirrel in the campground on the way to the RV.

We drove up the winding Lake Louise Drive and after parking the car we walked out to view Lake Louise.

We were surprised to see that there was still some ice on the lake’s surface.

After walking along part of the lake, we returned to the Chateau Lake Louise

and looked through a few of the shops inside. We saw these chandeliers that reminded us of some we saw in Germany when we visited some of the castles there.

We saw these Corvettes parked at Chateau Lake Louise and their owners were touring the National Parks.

On the way back to the campground we stopped to take photos of the Lake Louise Railway Station that is now a restaurant and took a photo of a 1925 Delemere dining car.

We picked up an open wi-fi connection in the parking lot and I managed to add yesterday’s photos to our web albums and post our blog entry.

When we returned to the RV, we took Tinker for a “hike” alongside the Bow River.
