St. Augustine Trolley Tour

We got a up earlier than usual and after walking Tinker, feeding him and having our coffee, we drove into St. Augustine to go on the Trolley Tour. We crossed the Bridge of Lions a little after 9:00.

We parked at the parking garage at the Visitor Information Center for $3 for the day - that was the discounted price with our trolley tickets. Then we walked across the street to the Trolley Welcome Center in time for the 9:30 trolley.

We passed by Flagler College where we saw a fence made from chains and spiked balls,

the Villa Zorayda Museum in a house built by the Boston Millionaire Franklin W. Smith in 1883 and was inspired by the 12th-century Moorish Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain.

Then by the Lightner Museum in what was the Hotel Alcazar built by Henry Flagler in 1888 in the Spanish Renaissance Revival style,

the St. Augustine Distillery that is in the FP&L Ice Plant building built in 1907. The plant was the first in
Florida to make commercial block ice. This Chevrolet truck from the Ice Plant is parked out front.

We passed by the Plaza de la Constitucion

Governor's House and Museum

The Oldest House

the Castillo de San Marcos,

Ripley's Believe It or Not

the Old Senator, a Live Oak tree that is said to be well over 600 years old,

and then the Columbia Restaurant where we got off of the trolley to have lunch there. Mike ordered the 1905 Salad with baked ham, Swiss cheese, tomato olives, grated Romano cheese and garlic dressing ($12.95). I had the Havana Club sandwich with turkey, bacon, ham, Swiss cheese, tomato & mayo on Cuban bread with plantain chips ($9.95). We both had iced tea ($6.00), so our total for lunch was $30.78. We have twice eaten at the Columbia Restaurant in Celebration near Kissimmee and have enjoyed it each time.

We stopped by the Gift Shop where I bought a large ceramic creamer to go with the small one I had bought in the Celebration shop.
Mike bought a bottle of their 1905 Salad Dressing and a bottle of their Salsa Picante Hot Sauce.

After lunch we walked over to the nearest trolley stop and caught one and rode it back to the Visitor Center where we had parked the car.

We stopped for gas on the way back to Anastasia State Park and paid $2.799 a gallon for premium grade.

Tinker was happy to see us when we got back to the trailer. Since we had such a large lunch today, we just had turkey sandwiches and pasta salad.

We had a great day today and tomorrow we're going back to visit the Castillo de San Marcos. There are so many museums and places to visit in St. Augustine, that we won't be able to see a lot of them this trip. That's a good reason to come back!
