Our Last Day at Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Yesterday we drove over to the Pine Grove campground here in the park to see what it looks like. The campground is near the entrance to the state park and has 90 campsites. The River Campground where we are at has 52 sites.

There are no trees to speak of at Pine Grove. It is right at the state park entrance on A1A and I'm sure that the hurricanes from this year and last year destroyed any trees that were there.. But the campsites are nice and they are larger than the ones at the River Campground. I think the main reason is because they have been upgraded because of the hurricane damage. We would like to stay there the next time we come to Jonathan Dickinson, just not in the summer since there are no trees at the campsites for shade.

We've been having problems with gnats and mosquitoes at our campsite and we found out why. There is
a swamp at the end of our loop and our campsite is the closest one to it. We've been using a lot of insect repellent lately.

We had a couple come in to a campsite near us and we noticed that he was having trouble getting the awning out. Mike went over to help and we found out that this was their first trip out with the motorhome. They had bought a used one and are in the "learning stage". They are only camping here for the night before going to their home.

Apparently wherever they bought the RV, they weren't given a thorough walk-through and explanation of how everything works. So Mike went over each of the systems with him and answered a lot of his questions. Mike also talked with him about how he uses Oxyclean powder in the black and gray holding tanks after he's dumped them and has refilled the tanks to clean them out.

I talked with his wife and she had some questions about making good use of the storage areas and just general ideas of things she might need for the kitchen compared to cooking at home.

They were also having problems with the gnats and mosquitoes and hadn't brought any insect repellent. We had an extra bottle, so we gave it to them.

I hate to admit it, but I have forgotten both of their names. Maybe we will see them in the morning before they leave to go back home.
